Who might come for Psychotherapy or Counselling?

Those who

  • Feel that they lack confidence or are not living life to their full potential

Anyone might seek out psychotherapy and counselling at a time of loss, trauma or distress, or because they accept that there are patterns in their lives which seem to repeat themselves.

People often seek help because they feel upset and burdened.

They also think about counselling at a time when important decisions have to be made.

 

How can psychotherapy and counselling help?

It is often a relief to talk over things with a person who can reflect on what is being said. This often involves clearer understanding of the causes of the particular problem and making links with past events and patterns. This can, in turn, allow greater reflection on thoughts and actions.

How long might the therapy last?

This service offers:-

  • Assessment of needs. This is not the same as ongoing therapy and might result in recommendations for the styles of therapy listed below, in referral to another agency or in a recommendation that therapy is not appropriate.
  • Short term [4 sessions]
    With the assessment therapist to deal with a specific issue.
  • Medium term [16-25 sessions]
    To think about more complex issues which may have been recurrent.
  • Long term [over 40 sessions ]
    For more complex issues, to give time to tell your story in depth and for further personal development.
  • Couple or marital therapy
  • Short or medium term group work.

 

How do people come to The Centre?

They may

  • Be referred by their GP or psychiatrist
